Color: A Great Reason To Buy A New Car!

Some people would enjoy buying a car every year but not me.  My strategy has been to buy a high quality automobile and take care of it so that I can avoid the whole car-buying experience for another ten years.  With the 100 new color options that Dupont is offering to automotive designers under the theme "Appetite for Color" I think my attitude is about to change.

Color-infused grays, bolder blues and an entire range of distinctive color choices captured my imagination and may just take hold of my pursestrings as I select my next vehicle. According to Karen A. Surcina, color marketing and technology manager for DuPont Automotive Systems "The auto market is further pushing the envelope in color, recognizing  that as many as 40 percent of consumers are likely to switch brands if they can't get the color they want." 

Dupont's innovative palette combined with high performance finishes are sure to inspire designers and awe car buyers.  Technology has create new visual effects and more durable colors.  Hue-shift finishes allow the color to change based on the viewing angle, metallic finishes express the unique character of the vehicle, and pearlized coatings have been taken to the next level.

The fresh range of colors and finishes are a perfect marriage of science and aesthetics.  The days of looking to other industries for color inspiration may be over as the automotive industry moves into a postion of driving rather than following color trends.  Automobile finishes are already influencing the look of appliances, and consumer electronics.  It won't be long before customers are clamoring for "car colors" in other areas and we may just see car colors and finishes influencing the look in home decor, apparel and accessories.
